He’s one of the best footballers of all time. Lionel Messi has come along way since he’s joined Barcelona at the age of 13. He’s become Barcelona’s top goal scorer and the most influential player winning the Champions League, La Liga and various other top honours in the time that he’s been with the Spanish giants. At Perfect Memorabilia, we’ve decided to put together his top 10 footballing moments of all time. Let’s check them out from 10 through to 1:
10. Messi’s first goal for Barcelona:
The first of many goals for Messi. The first in May 2005. Scoring against Albacete after coming on as a substitute in the second half. A cool lob with an assist from Ronaldinho.
9. Hand of God against Espanyol in 2007:
Sometimes people do covers of classic songs and movies and it might not go to plan. This same line of thinking can’t be said for Lionel Messi’s hand of god goal against Espanyol. A cross came in from the right hand side and he heads the ball via his hand to confirm himself as Argentinian striker.
8. Goal against Getafe in 2007
One of the best goals in history of La Liga. At just 19, the young Argentine went on a run from the half way line, nutmegging and dribbling past various players before going wide of the keeper and shooting the ball into the net. Watch it on YouTube.
7. Champions League final goal 2009
Messi won the game for Barcelona against Manchester United in the 2009 final. A great cross from Xavi was met by the Argentine genius who headed the ball into the back of the net to seal another win for the Catalans.
6. 3 and more against Arsenal
Messi netted 4 goals against Arsenal in the 2009 and scored 3 in just over 20 minutes. The playmaker had a great summer and had just won the Champions League for Barcelona against Man Utd.
5. Real Madrid win in 2010
Messi’s performance for Barcelona in the 90 minutes enabled his team to dismantle their biggest rivals 5-0. His play allowed others to score. He tore apart the defence. This result will be remembered for years to come.
4. 86th goal in a year (2012)
His two goals against Real Betis in the latter part of 2012 broke the 40 year record for most goals scored in a single year. His 86 goals beat Gerd Mueller and it looks like this will take some beating over the next 40 years.
3. 2 goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League Semi in 2011
He darted and sliced his way through the Madrid defence in this encounter back in 2011. He made Mourinho despondent at the end of the match after his solo second goal to round off a great win.
2. Winning against Man Utd again in 2011
History repeated itself after the 2009 final against Manchester Utd when Messi was a central part in the 2-0 win. He was awarded man of the man and scored a 20 yarder to embarrass his opponents again.
1. 4th Ballon D’or win
